So, if we’ve let on about our personal lives at all, you may have concluded just how important staying active is to each of us. Lecina has fallen in love with Crossfit at Synergy Strength in Saskatoon, and Libertee is a loyal patron to Fit Body Boot Camp in Bridgeland. You’ve heard us say it before, but exercise is ultimately our therapy - it can take us from dull to dance-y, from just okay to GREAT, and from “I need a drink” to “water’s fine” in one short hour.
Exercise is our fail-safe form of positive energy. We may not be yoga-masters, but we’re enlightened enough to know that a) looking good and feeling good are intrinsically intertwined and b) the clothes we wear tell a story.
This is our friend, Steph.
Steph is the proprietor of Sweat Society, a local-to-Calgary-company that sources and sells ethically produced, technically sound and drop-dead-gorgeous activewear.
A teacher of yoga and an avid Crossfitter, Steph started the company with the intention of providing an option for consumers that was reflective of the self-love and karmic teachings she would hear within the yoga studio.
“We go to Yoga or Crossfit, or engage in a variety of forms of physical fitness because we have a certain level of self love. We eat healthily, we move, we drink water because we treat our body with kindness.”
“It seemed strange to me to sit in a yoga studio wearing clothes that were created at the expense of someone else’s happiness or the well-being of the environment. The stories didn’t line up, and I wanted to tell a better one.”
Since establishing Sweat Society nearly two year’s ago, Steph has maintained her commitment to providing ethically sourced activewear that is as unique as it is functional. As a bit of a cherry on top, their price point is refreshingly reasonable, especially when compared to some of the more commonly known, less ethically sourced competitors.
Sweat Society is available through their online store, continuing pop-up shops (keep an eye on their Instagram) and at various studio locations in Calgary and Edmonton; be sure to check out the location finder on their website! Most recently, Sweat Society has expanded their footprint and are now happy to call LifeCycle Spin on Broadway in Saskatoon home, as well as Project Barre in Regina (in April!).
Behold a mecca of ethical, beautiful, practical, and enticingly unique activewear that is: Sweat Society!
Zen With a Bit of Zeal
Not only do we love what Sweat Society stands for, we love that they’re socially conscious with style. Each and every piece they source is not only socially and environmentally sound, it is absolutely, 100 percent, GORGEOUS! Furthermore, the vast majority of the leggings they carry pass the squat test…because you shouldn't have to worry about the fact that you’re wearing period panties with 250 pounds on your back. Real talk.
Take a look at some of the functionally fabulous looks we’ve created a la Sweat Society. . .
Luscious in Leopard
Pants: Nimble Active Wear Top: Dharma Bums
The four way stretch fabric on these pants can leave you under the impression you actually forgot to put pants on. The extra thick waist panel is just the right height to avoid cuts in the wrong places. Also the tee shirt is out of bounds soft, and just the right cut to make your arms look like you mean business.
Pants: Muladhara Top: Alo Yoga Sports Bra: Dharma Bums
Muladhara is a locally-made brand based out of Calgary (this automatically makes them cooler). Their leggings are squat test approved and super high waisted, meaning they can be worn way up high or folded down low. Love this! Also, Lecina will commit that the flat-out-gorgeous Alo Yoga top is one she wouldn’t dream of popping.
Sultry in Shorts
Shorts: Nimble Sweater: Sweat Society Top: Alo Yoga Bra: Dharma Bums
We love the Nimble shorts for the built in panty liner. To those of us who double under, these are a god send.
Jammin' in Joggers
Pants: Anjali Sports Bra: Dharma Bums
Lecina will go on the record and say, flat-out, these are the most comfortable pants she has ever worn on her body. Both moisture wicking and antimicrobial, these pants keep you dry and odour free no matter how much you sweat! Also, your butt looks fly. The Dharma Bum Sports bra is perfectly cut to provide support without giving you a headache. You know exactly what we mean. Lastly, the mesh detailing on top is perfect.
